The client has your number
on Aug 26 in Frivolity, Random tagged by Peter BlackmanRory Cellan-Jones. Technology correspondent for the BBC. One of our clients has your mobile number.
How?
Well, the client ran a pitch process to appoint a new PR agency. I was invited to sit in on these meetings in order to help them appoint my friends, the right agency for the job.
Of the four pitches, three were your standard ‘ a bit about who we are, response to your brief, creative ideas, the bit about money, any questions?’
But one did not follow this tried and trusted format. Oh no. In the final one, a man in a moleskin suit stood up and presented his one, and only, chart. On it was Rory Cellan-Jones mobile number.
“That” said Mr Moleskin “is the only number you need. The only number that gets you technology coverage on the BBC”
“And now I have it too” said the client, writing it down on his pad.
“Do you have anything else for us?” I asked.
“No” came the reply.
“Oh” said the client.
And that, as they say, was that. The coffee and biscuits arrived as we left. I took a chocolate biscuit from the tray as we passed it in the corridor.
