Following our hugely successful first year, Ignite Bristol returns on Wednesday 9th February on board the world famous ss Great Britain.

The event will be part of Global Ignite Week, when over 100 cities will host Ignite events attended by upwards of 12,000 technologists, entrepreneurs, DIYers, and creative professionals on at least six continents.

If that wasn’t news enough, I may be dressing up as Brunel and presenting on the great man. I have my own top hat, frock coat and cigar. I also have no shame. Which is crucial.

Participating cities for Global Ignite Week include Seattle, Boston, Phoenix, Mumbai, Manila, Bucharest, Amsterdam, Bristol, Sydney, and Wellington. Global Ignite Week happens online as well as in person, with Ignite talks available to the whole world. Local Ignites will film, upload and even stream live video during their events, and then add those talks to the 1300+ five-minute videos archived on IgniteShow.com.

The ss Great Britain Trust’s Director of Development Vanessa Edwards told this blog “We are delighted to host this event on board Brunel’s ss Great Britain, for Global Ignite Week. It will provide us with the opportunity to showcase our stunning visitor attraction and venue hire facilities to a new audience, whist supporting an exciting and bold initiative which is fast becoming a well-loved Bristol institution. The ss Great Britain Trust shares Ignite’s passion for intelligent debate, learning and new ideas.”

This blog, in the form of Ignite Bristol co-ordinator Peter Blackman replied ‘Having enjoyed some wonderful nights at the Polish Club, and then the Tobacco Factory Theatre, we’re hoping for another memorable night at the SS Great Britain. We’ve already got some extraordinary ideas for talks, but we’re always looking for new submissions, so we’d encourage anyone who wants to speak to get in touch.’

To submit an idea that you would like to present on the ship at Ignite Bristol #4 – simply fill in the form on http://ignitebristol.net . To give you a flavour of past Ignite Bristol talks we have enjoyed presentations on, amongst others, comic books, homeless archaeology, rowing the Atlantic, cryptic crosswords, behavioural economics, the Lindy Hop, and misuse of the word ‘literally’. Films of all of which can be found on at http//ignitebristol.net
